Master of Engineering, Industrial Management and Engineering - "Melting Pot" of Expertise

Roger Nylund is the Head of Programme for the Master of Engineering, Industrial Management and Engineering at Novia University of Applied Sciences. We asked him to tell us a little more about what prospective students could expect from the degree programme.

"There is a vast amount of industry expertise available within the classroom."

The application period has now closed for the English-taught Degree Programmes and currently the programme is at the interview stage of the application process. The Master of Engineering, Industrial Management and Engineering Degree Programme received over 100 applications, a record number, according to the Head of Programme, Roger Nylund.

Although many of this year’s applicants were from Finland, applications were also received from the rest of Europe, as well as from other continents. The degree programme is aimed at engineers with a focus on management.

“This degree programme is a great “melting pot” where students can connect with different companies and cultures. Since most students who study in this programme are working full-time, there is a vast amount of industry expertise available within the classroom.”, Nylund continues.

Within the degree programme, students spend two days per month on campus (Thursday and Friday) and the rest of the time they complete assignments, or work within their respective fields. Staff and students are eager to get back onto campus and connect in-person again after having studied online during much of the pandemic.

As many of the students in the degree programme are already in working life, it creates an excellent opportunity for networking, an essential aspect of Finnish working life in many cases. In addition to continuing in working life after graduation, some of the alumni from the programme have also gone on to obtain their Doctoral Degrees at various other universities.

Nylund mentions that, in previous years, students have had the chance to visit companies, such as Wärtsilä, Mirka, and Danfoss. They have been to hear from their current employees about working in the industry.
