Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility!

Brief History

Originally, the first day on which transgender people were internationally recognised was held back in 1999, on 20th November. However, this day, known as Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), honours the memory of those transgender people who faced acts of anti-transgender violence and lost their lives because of it.

In 2009, as a way of not just commemorating but actually celebrating transgender and nonbinary people with joy, Rachel Crandall Crocker, Executive Director and Co-founder of Transgender Michigan (USA), founded International Transgender Day of Visibility (ITDV).

Since then, International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated across the world on 31st March to bring awareness to the varying achievements of, and continued barriers faced by, transgender and nonbinary people.
