On July 11, 2024, at the premises of the Embassy of Chile in Helsinki, Ambassador Belén Sapag, accompanied by Consul Jorge Castro Pereira, presented Dr. Örjan Andersson with the originals of the Letters Patent and the Exequatur that officially accredit him as the first Honorary Consul of Chile in Vaasa, with jurisdiction in the provinces of Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia.

Dr. Örjan Andersson, President and CEO of the Novia University of Applied Sciences, is a renowned academic with 25 years of experience in leadership positions in higher education and involvement in industrial and educational companies, having led expert groups at the Ministry of Education of Finland. He has visited our country, including Magallanes, where he learned about the Chilean potential in renewable energies and circular economy, and met with various authorities and representatives of CORFO, among others.

The establishment of an honorary consulate in Vaasa is an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between Chile and Finland and reinforces the Chilean presence in a region with great potential for cooperation in the areas of renewable energy, technology and the shipping industry and sustainable forestry, among others. Vaasa is the destination of specialized and academic delegations from our country, more recently, from Magallanes, who participate in Vaasa Energy Week, the largest annual meeting on energy held in Finland and the Nordic countries.
