Said about the Course: All in all, I have enjoyed this course a lot and the course material and lectures have been very interesting and insightful! The learning diary has been a good way to reflect my thoughts and theory around leadership.
The course and it's lectures are very interesting, thank you very much for that. And learning method is pleasant.

Target group:
Master’s students, any discipline. Open also for Bachelor’s level students.

Prerequisites:
No prerequisites.

Time and Place:
Asynchronously from January 13th to April 25th, 2025, Campus Online, meaning there are no scheduled lectures. Everything can be done at times suitable for the students. Registration before January 6th, 2025.

Course description:

The course covers the following topics:

  • Framing the field of leadership
  • Basics in HRM, fundamentals of leadership and organizational  knowledge transfer
  • Personnel rewards, appraisals, mentoring, coaching as tools in leading a global team
  • Corporate responsibility and business ethics related to different management levels
  • Change management associated with growth, but also downsizing and restructuring businesses in economic crises
  • Health, safety and environmental issues in everyday leadership.

Learning goals:
To enhance the student’s understanding of the different tasks and challenges in management and leadership. Leadership is multi-faceted and here focus is on human resource management (HRM), change management and the handling of conflicts. The course provides the student with a broader understanding of the roles and responsibilities in personal leadership on different management levels as well as strategic leadership. In addition to this, the aim is to bring an understanding of the challenges in leading multicultural teams in global organizations, sometimes as remote-teams.

Mode of delivery:
Asynchronous online lectures, self-studies and case studies. Novia UAS’s Moodle-platform to which students can log in with their HAKA-login will be used. The student can study the material and do the assignments in their own pace during the time-span of the course. During the course, the teacher is always available for questions and answers on short notice.

Course Literature:
To be recommended by the teacher on the course-platform in Moodle.

Assessment:
The course will be graded based on a portfolio of shorter assignments and a course essay.
