Bring Your Own Device, BYOD
Campus Vasa at Novia University of Applied Sciences is constantly working to improve and modernize the education and educational profile. Since computers have become a common part of our everyday work, all students who begin their studies should have their own laptops for their studies. The computer should have an internet connection and a web camera, so that the student can participate with own picture and sound during possible distance learning. The campus will continue to have computer rooms, especially for the parts of the study work that require heavier software and special equipment.
For normal use, Windows 11 with at least 8GB of memory is recommended. The computers are usually connected via Novia's wireless network, and it's good if they last a few hours on a single charge. You have free access to Microsoft Office 365, which you can either install on your own computer or use via the web applications. Digital material is stored on OneDrive for Business, where you can share it with other students and teachers.
Within certain limits, Linux and Apple MacOS can also be used, but to run certain programs these operating systems require virtualization software with which to run Windows virtually. This virtualization software may have an additional cost and requires some technical knowledge to install and administer. Chromebook or Windows 11 SE devices are not suitable for study use at Novia.
Public Transportation
Walking from the centre to the campus takes approximately 15 minutes. You can also travel on local buses in Vaasa using a single ticket, as well as with a Waltti season ticket or a value (pay as you go) card.
Read more about the Waltti card on the City of Vaasa´s website.
Students get discount on bus tickets by presenting a certificate of full-time studies. The certificate is obtained from the Student Services, Front Office. Discount is also available with the studentcard in Tuudo. The discount does not require that the student is permanently resident in Vaasa.
The timetables are found on the website of Vaasa local traffic.
Parking
Alere´s parking spaces are reserved for staff. Most parking spaces without time limit are located at Onkilahti (Metviken), the car park next to Station1. Along Wolffintie there is a parking ban, 1 h parking and free parking depending on where on the street you are.
Bicycle parking is available in the courtyard area at Wolffintie 31.
