Andriana Koutsandrea

Andriana Koutsandrea is a marine biologist and oceanographer, interested in marine research and environmental sustainability. Her research is focused on climate change effects on marine biota and how to prevent the negative effects, specifically in coastal plankton communities.

I studied Animal Science and Aquaculture at the Agricultural University of Athens in Greece and I obtained my BSc and MSc degrees in Agricultural Science and Engineering in 2019. After that, I finished my second MSc degree in Oceanography and Management of the Marine Environment at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2023. During the final year of my studies, I was involved in a mesocosm experiment in France.

Now I am a PhD student at Åbo Akademi University in Environmental and marine biology. My topic is Eco-physiological responses of marine biota to warming and ocean acidification - focus on benthic-pelagic coupling. My main research interest is zooplankton responses under different stressors during climate change. I also use different methods in my research that may improve both our oceans and in the long-term the well-being of our society, which is supported greatly by the ocean.

My supervisors are Jonna Engström-Öst from Novia University of Applied Science and Anna Törnroos-Remes from Åbo Akademi University, who helped me a lot with my study.
