Period: 24.10.2024 - 31.12.2026

Content: The “Nordic-ASEAN Music Collaboration and Cultural Exchange Program (NAMCCEP)”
is a collaboration
between Novia University of Applied Sciences through its Faculty of Arts and
Culture, and the National
University of Singapore (NUS) through Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music
(YST). NUS is a world-leading
university with many subjects ranking in the world’s top ten and YST is one of
Asia’s top music academies.

NAMCCEP will involve faculty members from both HEIs, as well as Bachelor’s and
Master’s students, and aims
to:
- facilitate music collaboration between students live and online
- create a network of Nordic and Southeast Asian music makers
- explore new models of online collaboration
- inform the music curriculum development at both HEIs
- increase cultural understanding and musical exchange between the two regions.

The project will be built around:
- the NAMCCEP Exchange: an in-person teacher-student exchange program, embedded
as a new course at
both HEIs
- the NAMCCEP Digital Network: a program of online student collaborations,
shared webinars and online
lectures
- the NAMCCEP Knowledge Transfer Partnership: a program of teacher forums from
both HEIs which will feed
into the development of new music curricula.
The NAMCCEP Exchange will include practical workshops in areas of music
creation, production and
collaboration, and will culminate in recorded musical outputs. The exchanges
will be scheduled to coincide
with collaborative events at each HEI, such as the songwriting camps which
Novia UAS hosts regularly in
collaboration with the Songwriters Academy of Sweden, and the wealth of music
performances which are
hosted by YST.

The NAMCCEP Digital Network will coordinate online student collaborations and
feature webinars and online lectures on areas such as: mutual perspectives on
music production, the internationalization of music
industries, cultural perspectives in music education and community music
projects, and the contemporary
music scenes in the Nordic and ASEAN regions.

NAMCCEP builds on flagship programs in both institutions such as Novia’s
Creative Music Production (MA),
and relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programs in YST. As examples of
knowledge transfer, YST will
enhance Novia’s understanding of Asian music markets and Novia UAS will help
enable the development of
new popular music and music production-focused programs at YST.

As a direct result of NAMCCEP:
- Students and teachers will gain an understanding of the Nordic and ASEAN
music cultures and markets
- Students will grow creatively through in-person and online collaborations
with musicians from different
backgrounds and disciplines
- A network of Nordic and ASEAN songwriters and musicians will be created
- Teachers and leaders will learn about each other’s education systems and
pedagogical models, informing
their own music curriculum developments
- This will be the basis for wider collaboration between the two institutions
through other means of funding.
