Forskningsomrade Systemomstallning for att bygga resiliens

GeoICT4e

About the project

The project is a collaboration between Novia and two Finnish higher education institutions: the University of Turku and the Turku University of Applied Sciences, and five higher education institutions in Tanzania and is funded by the HEI ICI programme (Ministry for Foreign Affairs via the Finnish National Agency for Education).
The main purpose is to provide higher education students in Tanzania with such GIS- and ICT-related skills that they have better conditions to find or create a job in the labor market.
The project builds on previous HEI ICI projects that the University of Turku has had in Tanzania, partly with the same partners. The focus of GIS applications is sustainability issues and natural resource management. The main activities of the project are the development of a large number of virtual "mini-courses" or "nuggets" that can be used in connection with teaching in the partner universities, and the so-called "nuggets". Challenges, where students participate in the solution of sustainability-related problems using GIS and ICT for a number of weeks in practice.

Project goal

The main outcome of ‘GeoICT4e’ is that Tanzanian universities have improved management and teaching capacities in impact-driven and socially innovative geospatial and ICT education.
