The results from the 2024 follow-up on open science, education, and operational culture have been published. The results show that Novia University of Applied Sciences has not managed to raise the level since the last measurement in 2022.

The follow-up on open science and research, called AVOTT, compares Finnish universities, universities of applied sciences, and research institutes in four categories: research culture, publishing, research materials and infrastructures, and education.

The aim of the follow-up on open science and research is to support organizations' development work in open science, support and verify that the goals set in the declaration and guidelines are achieved, and to get an overall picture of the openness of Finnish science.

Novia's overall grade is three.

Novia maintains a consistent level in research culture and publishing, with a grade of four. Throughout the year, Novia has worked internally on openness and has, for example, launched a new policy for open science, education, and operational culture.

"We have worked hard this year to raise the level, but we do not see that work reflected in this year's survey since the material was collected in the spring of 2024. Openness and responsibility are important to us, and we continue to develop our processes," says Johanna Liinamaa, Head of Research at Novia.

Novia has also previously committed to CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment), an international agreement on the renewal of the evaluation of research, researchers, and research organizations, which promotes openness.

The next AVOTT follow-up is in 2026, and the indicators to be followed up are already being worked on under the leadership of the national coordination of open science.
