Lill-Nägles Agroforestry Pilot Project takes part in International Agroforestry Open Weekend
Come visit the Lill-Nägels Agroforestry Pilot Project, in Jorvas, southern Finland, as part of the international Agroforestry Open Weekend!
The pilot project at Novia University of Applied Sciences aims to establish a forestry farm according to the principle of cultivation. Through forestry farming, we can promote biodiversity, improve soil fertility, and increase farm profitability. We are developing a method to improve the ecological, economic, and social situation in farming today
You are welcome to come visit the farm on the open day 20th May, 10-15. There is the option of joining a guided tour at 10:10, 11:10, 13:10, and 14:10.
About the farm
A medium sized arable farm (80 ha) in southern Finland growing a variety of cereals. In addition to the agroforestry project there is an established apple orchard with an adopt-your-own apple tree CSA program. The farm also has about 70 ha of forestry.
Our agroforestry project is a pilot successional silvoarable agroforestry system. We aim to support biodiversity to restore soil fertility on our 8000 sq meter plot and in doing so provide new opportunities for fresh fruit, berries, and some vegetables directly to local customers through a CSA.
