Chiamaka Gwendolyn Abony, Beauty Care and Cosmetics

Who are you?

Hello! My name is Chiamaka Gwendolyn Abonyi. I am 19, and I am currently in my final year studying for an undergraduate degree.

What do you study and why did you choose this field?

I study Beauty Care and Cosmetics. I chose this field for the most obvious reason; passion. I never really knew what I wanted to study in university. I wanted to “go with the flow”, but I genuinely didn’t know where the flow was taking me.
Fortunately, my dad stumbled upon a link to this degree program and thought that I would love it because I had always been into beauty and style.

I was so excited reading about the program and what it has to offer, I started my application process the same day I found out about the degree program. Here I am now, the final year.

What did you do before starting your studies at Novia?

I just graduated secondary school and was doing an internship at a sewing atelier while searching for the “next step” before I found Novia.

What is the best thing about your studies?

We get to practice a lot. Yes, theory is important but for people like me, I learn more by doing and my studies provide me with just that. Since my degree program is more practical than most, we have a lot of hands-on learning and workshops. The teachers create the perfect balance of theory and practice for us.

We also have yearly internships/work practice where we get to choose and apply to different companies and roles in the beauty/style industry. This is one of my favorite things about my studies because we get to get the real life working experience; from the job hunting to the job application to showing up on the first day and performing, we get the opportunity to experience everything.

What are your plans after graduation?

I would love to study some more and earn a higher degree preferably in the field of business and or marketing. I would love to build a career in the business of cosmetics and remain in the beauty industry.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about studying at Novia UAS?

Do it! Novia is a hive of international students and a hub for excellent education. Your teachers are always there to support and guide you, and you meet and make friends with amazing people from all over the world. Novia UAS is an institution where you can comfortably learn and grow.
