Novia University of Applied Sciences Attracts Many Students
As many as 2602 people want to study in the international English-language Bachelor and Master programs at Novia University of Applied Sciences.
The first joint application for universities ended on January 22. English-language programs participate in the first joint application of the spring. Novia University of Applied Sciences has offered a total of 406 beginner places in twelve master's level programs and nine bachelor's level programs in the first joint application of the spring. In 2024, Novia offered 322 study places in English.
The most popular bachelor's programs this year were the English-language Nursing program in Vasa, which attracted 993 applicants for 35 places, and the English-language Biomedical Laboratory Science program in Vasa, with 420 applicants for 14 places.
Among the master's programs, the greatest interest was directed towards the Industrial Management and Engineering program located in Vasa. According to preliminary application figures, the program attracted 116 applicants for 27 places.
Admission results will be published by the end of May
Currently, Novia is reviewing the applications. For some programs, admission is based on entrance exams, which will be held during the period of March-April.
Novia will publish the first admission results from the turn of February-March. All results in the first joint application must be published by May 28.
Applicants who are offered a study place will receive a notification of their admission by email. Applicants can also follow the status of their admission in the My Studyinfo service.
A 100 euro application fee new for this year
New for this year's application is that an application fee of 100 euros has been introduced for applying to higher education studies. The main rule is that all applicants who are not EU/EEA citizens must pay the application fee. The fee must be paid within seven days after the application is submitted. If the fee is not paid within the specified time, the application will be canceled. The application statistics are adjusted as applicants pay their application fee or the application is canceled because the applicant does not pay their application fee. The final number of applications will be clarified in February.
"Nationally, there has been a decrease in the number of applicants from countries outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland in this year's application, and this is also reflected in Novia's figures. The number of applicants residing in Finland has increased from last year's application and constitutes the largest group of applicants in this year's application. In previous years, applicants from Nigeria and Bangladesh have constituted the largest group of applicants, but for these countries, there is a clear decrease in this year's application", Team Leader of Admissions Linda Norrbutts.
"Last year, Novia piloted grade-based admission for a couple of English bachelor's programs, and the use of grade-based admission has been expanded in this year's application. This year, it is possible to be admitted based on grades to five of Novia's English bachelor's programs. The expanded use of grade-based admission offers a smooth admission method for applicants who, for example, have a Finnish matriculation examination, vocational qualification, or an international IB or EB examination", Team Leader of Admissions Linda Norrbutts.
"We are very pleased with the continued interest in Novia's programs. In recent years, we have gradually expanded the range of English-language programs to respond to the increasingly international labor market. We are very pleased with the result, which is in line with our strategy," says Communications Manager Jenny Svartsjö.
The figures are not yet final and may change after a final review.
