Natural Resource Management

The student:
- is able to identify and analyse the factors that affect the utilization and management of natural resources
- is well acquainted with national and international legislation and other control mechanisms which affect the management of natural resources
- is able to apply planning methods and tools for the sustainable utilization of natural resources
- has good knowledge of how one facilitates the participation and contribution of interested parties in the decision making and implementation of natural resources management
- has a good knowledge of how the management and utilization of various natural resources are connected and sees the possibilities in the development of integrated administration

Sustainable Coastal Management

The student:
- has a broad understanding of that the well-being of populations and the economic viability of many businesses in coastal zones depend on the environmental status of these areas
- is familiar with the use of long term management tools, such as integrated coastal management, to enhance the protection of coastal resources whilst increasing the efficiency of their uses.
- has the knowledge on how to decrease risks for excessive exploitation of natural coastal resources in order to protect biodiversity and habitats

Natural Resource Economics

The student:
- has a deep understanding of the importance of natural resources for human welfare as well as why sustainable use of natural resources is necessary for economic growth and welfare
- understands the role of market mechanisms in resource allocation and how market failures affects environmental quality and human welfare,
- can apply, within his/her own field, economic reasoning in analysis of environmental problems as well as efficient resource allocation and how these problems can be solved by implementation market-based and administrative instruments,
- is familiar with methods evaluating social net benefits of environmental protection as well as cost efficiency and what sorts of methods are used for economic valuation of environmental benefits
- understands importance of EU:s and national policies and strategies to promote efficient resource allocation and sustainable development,

The student:
- can conduct a literature search and identify relevant literature from quality assured and peer reviewed sources
- knows how to work according to the scientific methods of relevance for the field
- is able to in detail plan a scientific study and is able to analyze and present research findings
- is familiar with the fundamentals of scientific writing and presentation of scientific text
