The Master’s degree programme answers the constantly growing competence requirements and needs in management, businesses and working life. The profile of the programme is on the combination of management skills, business and communication. The goal is for the student to be able to meet the demands of the new digital world. Different professional and cultural backgrounds of the students will enable a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
The degree programme in Digital Business Management delivers generic competences and programme specific competences. The competence includes knowledge, skills and attitudes.
The programme can be conducted either as full-time or part-time studies and will include contact and distance studies. For full-time studies, the contact studies will take place every second week. For part-time studies, contact studies will take place once a month. You can work with different development tasks or projects connected to working life or to your own workplace. The courses are tailored in building blocks of leadership studies, business management, business communication and digital tools in business studies. The courses are implemented as a blended learning. The generic competences within the program are knowledge, skills and attitudes but also learning, ethical and working community competences including aspects of internationalization. One of the central competences is innovation competence including individual, interpersonal and networking competences with following competence dimensions: critical thinking, initiative, creativity, teamwork and networking.
The degree program specific competences mean that the student perceives how management, business and communication enable a holistic view when developing business and societal issues. The student will be exercised in problem solving, innovativeness and creativeness through business, management and communication by taking into consideration on meeting demands of the new digital world. The student practices and shares expertise in teams and networks from different experiences and cultural backgrounds, creates and manages professional networks nationally and internationally.
The study pace is flexible and the student can build his/her own individual study plan with regard to his/her individual needs and prior knowledge.
For the students who have an earlier Bachelor’s Degree the studies consist of 90 ECTS (2-3 years).
Structure of Studies
The studies are tailored in blocks of following advanced studies, master’s thesis and elective studies:
- Leadership studies, 13 ECTS (Self Leadership, Organizational Development and Sustainable Leadership)
- Financial Analysis and Financial Decision Making, 8 ECTS
- Digital Tools in Business, 12 ECTS
- Digital Business Communication, 10 ECTS (360° of Strategic Business Communication 5 and Exploring the World of Digital Marketing Communications)
- Business Management, 10 ECTS (Digital Project Management in Practice and Management in the Era of Digital Transformation)
- Academic Reading and Writing, 2 ECTS
- Research Methodology, 5 ECTS
- Master’s Thesis, 30 ECTS
The language of instruction
The programme is offered in English.
The master's thesis is a working life-based development project and an important part of the master’s degree. The master’s thesis is a demanding development project or research work combining theory, praxis and creation of new knowledge. The thesis subject and aims are based on requirements and needs of working life. The thesis is an applied study research and it emphasizes development of the work, the organization or the working community. Conducting the master’s thesis project requires independent and demanding expertise. The student gives proof of mastering the methods of retrieving information, research and development as well as the skills of adapting research information in an analytical and critical manner.
In the master’s thesis the student is able to:
- combine theoretical framework and pragmatic work with the contextual needs in a development or research project
- network and communicate professionally with relevant organizations and communities
- evaluate critically sources and methods, select the suitable ones and use them systematically and ethically
- document, report and give a presentation of the project or research status and the final results
The programme leads to a higher professional qualification, and it is strongly oriented towards working life. After studying in this programme the students will be prepared to work with management tasks within different organizations which want to develop their business. The studies give students an advanced knowledge base for the future leadership challenges in the digitalized business environment.
The Master’s Degree Programme in Digital Business and Management is a university of applied sciences post-graduate degree.
Under the Finnish legislation, a person who has taken the Master’s degree is qualified for posts or positions for which the qualification requirement is a second-cycle higher education degree. In some cases, the qualification requirement also includes the completion of studies in certain specified fields of study. The degree falls under the Article 11 of the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications, level e.

The student practices and shares expertise in teams and networks from different experiences and cultural backgrounds, creates and manages professional networks nationally and internationally.
The thesis is an applied study research and it emphasizes development of the work, the organization or the working community. It is also possible to join research and development programs and have the thesis done in a project.
With a Master's degree, students are able to continue to university post-graduate (licentiate/doctoral) studies, however universities may at their own discretion have specific admission requirements for post-graduate studies that must be met in addition to a completed Master's degree.
