Energy Technology

We would like to welcome you to your studies at Novia University of Applied Sciences and to the Bachelor’s degree programme in Energy Technology!

Study start

Enrollment

The academic year 2022-2023 will commence on Wednesday 31.8.2022 with enrollment between 9.00 and 11.00 at Wolffintie 33, Vaasa in room R316.

Info session

On Friday 2.9.2022 the whole day is reserved for an information session. Info about the schedule and place will be provided later.

Late arrivals

Students arriving later than the specified date are strongly urged to provide information about their expected arrival date. Please contact the student affairs office at studentservices@novia.fi.

Educational Certificates

During the information session each student must unconditionally present the official and original study certificate from their previously completed studies.

Bring Your Own Device

Since computers have become a common part of our everyday work, all students should have their own laptops for their studies. The computer should have an Internet connection and a web camera so that the student can participate with their picture and sound during possible distance learning.

The recommended operating system is Windows 10. Mac OS X has limited support and Linux and other operating systems are not supported.

Office 365 service allows students to download and use the Office suite for free and install it on their computers. The following programs are included in the Microsoft Office package: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype for Business, InfoPath, OneDrive for business...

The campus will continue to have computer rooms, especially for the parts of the study work that require heavier software and special equipment.

The Studies

The studies lead to a Bachelor’s degree in Energy technology and consist of 120 ECTS, of which 30 ECTS is an Internship and 15 ECTS a Bachelor’s thesis. The studies are primarily planned as full-time studies over two years.

Internship

The Internship (practical training) required for the Bachelor’s degree can be performed before the studies begin. Since the requirement for admission to the studies is that the student has completed at least 120 ECTS studies at Bachelor's level, the Internship has to be carried out after these studies. I.e., work before any Bachelor’s studies does not count as an Internship. The Internship can be carried out after the studies and after the Thesis, but a degree cannot be obtained before the Internship is completed.

Internships normally consist of work within one's own industry specialisation. The internship should be certified with an original signed work certificate, including a description of the work performed. The Internship is a total of 30 ECTS, which corresponds to a work effort of 810 h (approximately 21 weeks of full-time work).

Internship projects are not provided by Novia.

Thesis project

The degree thesis is a professionally oriented, independent final project comprised of 15 ECTS. The final project aims to deepen the student’s knowledge of the subject. The degree thesis can be considered as a bridge between the studies and working life and offers the student a possibility to apply theoretical frameworks to practical problem posing. The project becomes a part of the student’s competence profile.

Each student is responsible for the acquisition of their Thesis project.

Novia provides supervision for each Thesis project.
