FIP-S2@Novia - Smart Shipping Research Platform
FIP-S2@Novia is an applied research platform on smart shipping for the maritime industry. With our unique combination of smart maritime technology expertise, operational maritime knowledge, and simulation know-how, we can solve a wide range of problems for maritime companies efficiently and cost-effectively – from researching and prototyping to modifying a finished product for the market.
FIP-S2@Novia is a joint initiative between Novia University of Applied Sciences and Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services CML. Platform is based on Novia’s maritime campus Aboa Mare.
Background of FIP-S2@Novia
Digitalisation is a global trend in the maritime industry, with ship autonomy as a growing trend. The industry needs smart, safe and cost-efficient technology solutions, which need to be tested in realistic conditions.
This is where FIP-S2@Novia comes into the picture. We offer a wide range of knowledge and understanding in smart technologies, maritime operations, and maritime simulations. With our interdisciplinary approach, we help our customers in creating new solutions to complex, multisystem environments in the maritime domain.
Maritime companies, and their operations, are international by nature. This can be a challenge for research and development, which is often organised on a national level. FIP-S2@Novia partners Novia UAS and Fraunhofer CML share the vision of creating a truly international ecosystem for maritime research, specifically for smart shipping.
FIP-S2@Novia is built on years of cooperation and mutual trust. Novia UAS and Fraunhofer CML have worked together in several joint EU projects. Now they join forces in long-term cooperation.
Fraunhofer CML is part of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. It is the strongest applied research organisation in Europe, with more than 75 institutes specialising in various fields of technology in Germany and in a global cooperation network.
Based at the Novia UAS Aboa Mare maritime campus in Turku, Finland, FIP-S2@Novia offers the Finnish and the Northern European maritime industry a more direct access to the Fraunhofer network for the first time.
